Native to Costa Rica and Mexico, Butzii has a very distinct look that resembles a small fish with a set of long, extravagant tail fins. This plant has no stem and begins with a bulbous body that extends into a series of thin, tubular leaves, all of which is covered with very unique green, grey and black colored speckling. Butzii’s slender shape works well in arrangements for height. When in bloom, the spike comes out taller than the plant and displays purple flowers. Butzii prefer a relatively cooler temperature and lower amount of light (for an air plant), although it likes a more frequent watering schedule.
